UKRI explains that businesses usually access its opportunities through Innovate UK, and that a business applying as project lead must be UK-registered. Prepare a short decision brief

Record the applicant, project location, objective, development stage and proposed partners. Compare these with the competition’s scope. Identify the evidence for innovation, intended customers or users, and the route from project activity to its result.

Review resources and assumptions

Check staff availability, partner contributions, cost calculations and the organisation’s capacity to deliver and report. Read the applicable funding rules before treating a cost or contribution as accepted.

Make the next step explicit

Decide whether to apply, clarify an eligibility question or prepare missing evidence first. Keep a named owner for each open question. This prevents the team from drafting around assumptions that may later invalidate the proposal.
